What Is Love?

Why is it human nature to crave affection?

Is a love extravagant gift? Candy hearts? Red roses? Is love three words spoken or the sensation of butterflies in one’s stomach? Or, is love putting your personal convictions aside to prove to someone you care about them more than you care about yourself? Is love a game to be won or a heartbreak to dodge?

What is love and why is it so desperately hard to find?

Too many times people think they have found true love and then discover it was a skewed misrepresentation of love. When a person abuses your vulnerabilities, it is natural to build a bulwark around your heart that will prevent you from future pain.

However, the cry of your heart still desires love. Why?

I think it is because God is relational and He has designed us with the desire to love and to be loved. It is natural to crave affection. True love is boundless and it is expressed in infinite ways because God is love (1 John 4:8).

Allow yourself to be in a constant, amazing journey with God because He will express His admiration by loving you unconditionally.

It is through the love of God that can teach us valuable lessons on how to demonstrate love toward one another. This is why everyone is searching for love. Every. Single. Person.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 beautifully depicts the uncorrupted, pureness of love. It states,

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

If we rearrange these verses and replace certain adjectives with their antonym, this is what it would say:

“Love is not agitated; love is not rude. It should be full of comfort and confidence; Love should always express humility by putting others before themselves and focusing on other people’s ambitions. Love will honor others; it is caring, selfless, and kind. Love is peaceful and calm. It will document your positive traits and accomplishments. Love delights in purity and does not rejoice in dishonesty. Love never takes advantage of someone or injures him or her emotionally, physically, or spiritually. Love will always endure.”

So, what is love?

  • Love is honorable.
  • Love is selfless.
  • Love is respectful.
  • Love is a gift

Basically—Love is worth fighting for.

John 3:16, encapsulates the pinnacle of God’s limitless love,

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

God has given His life to prove His ardent love and devotion to you. You deserve love!

Prayer:Lord, I have given You so many reasons to stop loving me, but You never have—and You never will. Your love has never failed—and never will. I pray that You will help me emulate Your characteristics in my life. I desire a deeper walk and closer relationship with You and today, I choose to search after You because, I know in You, I will find what everyone is searching for; true love.
